Our volunteers provide foster homes and the animals are kept in foster care until Happy Tails finds homes for them. Animals for adoption through Happy Tails are not permitted to go to new homes from the adopt-a-pet event. If you are selected as the most appropriate home for the pet, you will be contacted and an appointment will be scheduled to bring the pet to your home. If you have any questions you are welcome to contact us at (586) 772-7883.
Application
If you are interested in one of our animals just fill out the Adoption Application and when you are finished just click on Submit. It may take up to a week before your application is reviewed also we do not adopt on a first-come, first-served basis. Many times we receive multiple adoption applications for each pet. We try to look at an animal's unique personality and needs, matching this with the best living situation. This works out to fewer returns due to incorrect placement and less stress for the pets. It also means we sometimes bruise a few hearts and we are sorry for this. Our commitment is first and foremost to the pets we serve.

Cats
Of course all this is not free and we must charge an adoption fee to offset the cost!

Happy Tails is a small group of volunteers dedicated to the rescue and placement of abused, neglected and unwanted animals. We are a Michigan "no-kill," 501(C)(3)non-profit organization operating in Macomb and parts of Wayne, and Oakland counties. We do not have a shelter. All of our pets are in foster homes where they receive all of the same love, training and care that the Foster's own pets get.
As a rescue, we take into our care, animals from many different situations. We pull many of our foster animals from kill shelters when their time is up. Some come to us because a shelter asks us to take them before they are turned in to them so that another animal doesn't have to die to make room. Some come to us from veterinary offices where an animal has been abandoned, and a few come from owners who can no longer care for them. We try to work with owners to help them re home their pets. However, if that doesn't work and the dog or cat is going to end up being "dumped," we try to make room for it.
As foster care givers, we make sure the animals get to the vet for any age appropriate vaccinations, sterilization, microchip ID, testing and treatments prior to them being adopted. The dogs and cats live in our homes as one of our own until the right permanent home is found. We make sure they get to the adoption events every week where they can meet prospective adopters. We take applications, do vet checks, home visits and all of the paper work needed for the placement of the pet following the guidelines set up by the rescue. We give our time, money, patience, and a piece of our heart to every animal the passes through our lives.

Did You Know?
If every pet in the U.S. were to have a home that would mean every family would have to own 7 dogs and 21 cats!
If 92% of all dogs and cats were spayed or neutered the remaining 8% could provide enough puppies and kittens for the entire world.
An average of 575 homeless dogs and cats are still being euthanized every hour at shelters across the nation.
It is estimated that only 1 in every 6 cats is lucky enough to have a home.
On average 15-30% of dogs ending up in U.S. shelters are reclaimed while cats average only 2-5% being reclaimed. Please keep a current tag with your address and phone number on your pets. It is a lifesaving act!
We would like to extend a special thanks to Petfinder for making this web space available, and allowing us the opportunity to participate and list all our adoptable animals with Petfinder.
